It should come as no surprise that my main mode of transportation is this...
...the New York City Subway. I mostly take the F train to West 4th Street and the A, C, or E train to Canal Street to get to school (and, naturally, the opposite to get back home). Unfortunately, the F train during rush hour is horrible! It's like cramming more sardines into an already full sardines can! It's unbelievable!!
And with all the walking in the City, I was advised by my personal doctor, (ah-hem), my sister, Dr. Toni Garma, M.D., that special orthopedic shoes were in order. Naturally, this was my excuse to buy myself 3 new pairs of shoes... because they were orthopedic and better for my lower back. (I may have gone overboard in the orthopedic shoe department...)
But, new orthopedic shoes aside, it has been getting a bit colder here in the City. Yesterday, it was about 56 degrees! That's burr for an island girl like me! I look like an idiot all bundled up walking to the subway, when others are walking around in shorts and an "I heart NY" t-shirt. The skimpily clad are, of course, the natives!
And, although the subway is the cheapest and mostly fastest mode of transportation, waiting for the subway train is the absolute worst (especially when you see your subway train pull away right as you get there and know that you have 10 minutes to sweat it out down there!)
Just imagine: you're bundled up from the 50-something degree weather outside, you walk down into the subway, you're sweating buckets under the layers of clothes (coz it's so frickin' hot down there), and, after getting off the subway, you walk back up to street level, back in the 50-something degree atmosphere. Being wet and cold is never the most comfortable thing. It's a good thing I wasted no time getting my flu shot! AND... It's a good thing, when you're in the subway, you'll most likely be serenaded by the lastest subway band...
(In case you can't see them, the band is to the right of the Chick in red and white... Complete with Bill Clinton saxophone player and a drummer in a gray wife-beater tank... Haha!)

Written in the Sky
One morning I woke up and decided to check-out the day outside my apartment. I was also craving some McDonald's Chicken McNuggets, so this was a perfect opportunity to take a stroll in the ol' (or should I say new) neighborhood. And, to my surprise, it was a clear day... with oddly shaped clouds... I knew this was definitely going up on the blog...
It was everywhere! I walked around the corner, by the Starbucks, and there were more messages in the sky! Naturally, I had to text my girls this one with the text that read, "Does that say what I think it says? Patrone??"
Yes, this sky message brought back memories of "triple threat" (e.g. hitting 3 clubs in one night) nights in my 20's with my Chicas... The memories were mostly a blur... (A blur of fun!!)
I followed the message all the way to the doors of McDonald's. I also tried to get the teeny tiny 6 planes writing the messages in the sky... If you look closely, you may see the planes (or not)...

I think this messages says "Artists Designers" and something.

Lotsa Biting Going On!
Hi Peeps... Since yesterday was a day of solemnity, today will be a day of catch-up...
Yesterday, 9/11, after being such a lazy bum-bum for the past 2 days (e.g. Not going to the gym), my friend Aimee and I decided to hit up a Zumba class. However, before partaking in the hip-gyrating event, I met the cutest guy EVER!!
His name is Ralph. He's Aimee's puppy. And he's only 18 weeks old... Notice his 2 lil front teeth? He is such a (expletive) cutie-pie!! (He's going to be a Big Boy!!)
Also, yesterday, I started my first day as a legal intern at ...
Oh yeah! That's right!! I started my first day as a legal intern at the Brooklyn DA's office (e.g. the Prosecutor's office, for the non-legalese peeps out there...) LOL! I am currently working in the School Advocacy Bureau, which is sort of a misnomer because that office deals with not only school crimes, but juvenile felonies also (e.g. juveniles under 16 years old). And, since I am a 3L, the ADA peeps told me I may get a chance to be on the record, which means I may get to go to court with some of the cases I'm given... (Emphasis added). That's the shizzz!!! Super excited about the potentiality of that prospect!!
Then for dinner, I decided to indulge in this yummy Falafal place on St. Mark's (Street?) called Mamouns. It is super duper YUMS! And it is only $3.00. Not bad for a sort of healthy dinner... But, of course, I couldn't help but also purchase a Baklava. I figured it's got walnuts at least... (Heehee)
While walking back to my dorm, I spotted this glow-in-the-dark sign...
Interesting???

New York City Mongoose
Hello All... Yes, it has been a few days, but I am taking big bites of the Big Apple, which has kept me quite busy.
What is wonderful, I've discovered, of this big city is that you can pretty much get anything delivered to you. I know what you're thinking, "You can get things delivered to you in Hawaii..." Ah-Ha... But not only did I get groceries delivered to my doorstep, I also got lunch delivered to me from Curry-Ya... Yup! Absolutely wonderful! I could just be a laaaazy bum-bum and have delivery-peeps bring me my shizzz... (I'm sure this will save me when it gets frigid in the city.)
I ordered groceries from FreshDirect.com, which totally beats going to the Whole Foods a few blocks away and, after my purchase, have to truck my purchases all the way back to my dorm. Thanks FreshDirect for my groceries! (24 case of diet coke not pictured...)
Also, while waiting for the subway today, I had my third sighting of what I've dubbed the "New York City Mongoose" aka a sewer rat, which is pictured below. You have to squint a little, but it's right in the middle of the picture between the subway tracks.
BTW... I absolutely dislike catching the subway on the weekends because the train's slower and doesn't come as often... So I am left sweating ballz in the subway... Ugly! However, as soon as I got to my destination, which was 4 or 5 blocks from my destination of Bed, Bath, and Beyond (I took the A train because the F train wasn't going Uptown/Queens bound), I snapped a pic of this iconic item...
I have definitely seen this coffee cup as a product-placement in many a New York City movies, tv shows, etc (maybe on Sex in the City, not sure...) Anyways, it may jog someone's memory...
Love & Aloha Peeps! I miss you guys!!

Yesterday was Laundry Day
This past Saturday my roommate, Naheed (who, BTW, is super duper kool beans), and I decided to give our bathroom a major makeover. Yes, yes... This is usually how industrious law students spend their Saturday night, on their hands and knees scrubbing the bathroom floor wondering, "Why on earth is this rug permanently plastered to the floor?!?" But all that shizz paid off in the end... Cute yeah?!? (Got that cute curtain on major discount!)
(You DO NOT want to see what this place looked like before!! Trust me on that one!! Yuck x100!)
Since this weekend was the cleaning and be lazy weekend, I decided to do my laundry as well. In my dorm, our laundry room is in the penthouse. And this is the view from up there:
Not too shabby... On the left, you can see the Brooklyn Bridge, which is on my list of places to visit while here in NYC... And to the right, the tallest building with all the lights is Freedom Tower (I think), which is built next to the World Trade Center site. My Mom, Dad, and I had the pleasure of visiting the WTC during the move-in, get-settled week...
This is a close-up of the Brooklyn Bridge...
This is close-up of Freedom Tower (and the other tower?)...
And this is the view from the other side of the balcony. I think the tallest building is the Empire State Building. (Still trying to get the hang of the skyline...)
And this is what it looks like furnished (and after I've been hermit-crabbing myself in it for about a week... I occasionally go out for some sunlight!!)
Catch ya later Peeps! Love & Aloha
